8 Best Windshields for Yamaha Tenere 700 | 2022 guide

OEM Windshield on Yamaha Tenere 700 is 300 mm tall and it lacks approximately 100mm to provide over-the-helmet wind protection for the 175cm tall rider. Some users report wind noise and wind turbulence in the helmet area which leads to fatigue and neck pain.

Original Tenerre 700 seat height is 88cm tall and the stock windshield is 57cm tall if you measure it from the stock seat. We recommend the windshield top edge to end at a height between your chin and nose when you sit upright on your bike.

For the 175cm tall individual the chin will be approximately 67cm above the seat when seated upright. Therefore, we recommend approximately 100mm taller windshields for average height individuals. Usually, a wind deflector used with a stock windshield will do the job.

If you are 180cm or taller consider using a taller aftermarket windshield plus a wind deflector if necessary. Moreover, there are windshield risers available that give additional windshield height adjustment. However, we do not recommend windshield risers since they make the bottom gap too big and too much air goes through this gap creating turbulence in the chest area.

We have researched windscreens from top motorcycle accessory manufacturers including Puig, Givi, MRA and many others.

Best For 165cm-175cm Tall Riders
(Stock Windshield + Wind Deflector)

Givi wind defelctor

Best For 175cm – 180cm Tall Riders (PUIG)

Puig 3727W Touring Screen

Best For 180cm – 190cm Tall Riders (Givi)

Givi D21445ST

Puig 3727W Touring Screen – Best for 170 cm Tall Riders

The Puig 3727W Touring screen is 80 mm taller compared to the original windshield. Users reported better wind protection in the helmet area and a decrease in wind buffeting. This Windshield fits all Tenere 700 models including the 2022 model.

If you are 180cm or taller – consider adding an adjustable wind deflector on top of the Puig WIndshield or add windshield adjustment brackets.

Note that rising windshield with windshield adjustment brackets affects bottom air release changing aerodynamics and may lead to worsen wind buffeting.

Puig Sport Screen – Best for Off-road

The Puig sport screen is 50 mm lower compared to stock. This windshield is worse in terms of wind protection. However, it creates less view disruption and makes off-road riding in technical terrain easier due to the better view directly in front of the bike.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 25cm x 25cm (50mm lower compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: Yes
Bottom Air Release: No
Material: Acrylic
Thickness: 3mm
Colour: Clear

MRA – Best for 175cm Tall Riders

The MRA Touring windshield is 100 mm taller compared to the stock Yamaha Tenere 700 windshield. It fits the 2019-2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 model. Windshield comes in 3 main colours – clear, smoked and black. Taking into account how tall the MRA Windshield is – we recommend only a clear version since smoked and black will cover a significant part of the road reducing the field of view and making riding unsafe.

We do not recommend this windshield for someone who is 170 cm tall or less since the upper part of the windshield may disrupt the line of sight.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 40cm x 30 cm (100 mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: Yes
Material: modified PMMA
Thickness: 3mm
Colour: Clear, Smoked, Black (We recommend clear for this windshield)

GIVI D2145ST – Best for 180cm – 185cm Tall Riders

Givi D21445ST is the tallest aftermarket windshield for Yamaha Tenere 700. It fits Yamaha Tenere 700 2019-2022 model years.

Givi has covered the bottom air release gap on this windshield. Questionable decision since it often leads to the low-pressure zone behind the windshield at higher speeds that turns into wind buffeting. On the other hand, Givi made D2145ST 17cm wider which makes wind buffeting less noticeable due to wind turbulence happening further from the helmet and not affecting the rider directly.

If you are 190cm or taller, consider using this windshield with an adjustable Givi wind deflector in the lowest position. Firstly, the wind deflector will calm down the ongoing wind by reducing the low-pressure “vacuum” effect behind the windshield, the same way the bottom air release gap works. Secondly, an adjustable Givi wind deflector will provide additional adjustable windshield height. And lastly, the Wind deflector has an adjustable tilt. Try adjusting the wind deflector tilt into a slightly more vertical position compared to the windshield tilt to calm down the wind flow and reduce wind buffeting.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 46cm X 42 cm (160mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: No
Material: Acrylic
Thickness: 3mm

Adjustability: No

GIVI D2145S – best for 165cm tall riders

Givi D2145S is the shorter version of GIVI D2145ST. This windshield is 14cm wider compared to stock but only 35mm taller. This windshield is not recommended for taller individuals unless you plan to use it with an additional wind deflector.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 33.5cm x 39.5 cm (35mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: No
Material: Acrylic
Thickness: 3mm
Colour: Smoked
Adjustability: No

GPK windscreen – Best Looking

GPK Windscreen is 60mm taller compared to stock. Fits 2016-2022 Yamaha Tenere 700 model years. GPK copied the stock design windshield in terms of bottom air release but made the windshield slightly taller. If you feel that the stock windshield pushes wind into the upper part of your visor – this windshield might do the job. But we still recommend an adjustable wind deflector for such cases.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 36cm X 32cm (60mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: Yes
Material: Semiflexible Lexan
Thickness: 4mm
Colour: Clear and Tinted
Adjustability: No

Ermax Touring Screen

Another Windshield is designed to fit specifically Tenere 700 2019-2022 models. The design is close to stock in terms of width and design; however, it is 80mm taller compared to stock. Note that ongoing air will find the shortest way around the object and will try to escape on the sides of the windshield. This is why taller windshields should compensate by being wider and having a bottom air release gap.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 38cm X 30cm (80 mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: Yes
Material: Acrylic
Thickness: 3mm
Colour: Clear
Adjustability: No

Airoad windshield – Most Narrow (Not Recommended)

Airoad windshield is the most narrow windshield that is also taller than stock. We do not recommend this windshield since the wind will get around on the sides and shake your head left to the right leading to neck fatigue and headache.

Specs:

Dimensions (height x width): 37cm X 27cm  (70 mm taller compared to stock)
Virtual Windtunnel Testing: No
Bottom Air Release: Yes
Material: not specified
Thickness: 3mm
Colour: Clear
Adjustability: No

Things to Consider before choosing an aftermarket Windshield for Yamaha Tenere 700

Seat Height

Take into account your Tenere 700 seat height when choosing a windshield. If your Tenerre 700 comes with a lowered seat, then your seat-to-windshield ratio will be bigger. In this case, you will need a lower windshield to achieve the same wind protection result since you will be sitting “deeper” in the motorcycle.

The stock windshield will do a better job with a lower seat. However, you will need a wind deflector if you are 170cm to 180cm tall. And GIVI D2145ST will do the job for 180cm – 190cm tall riders.

Your Height

Ideally, the windshield top edge should be between your lips and nose. This way windshield will not interfere with your line of sight while sending the ongoing wind blast above the helmet. We recommend using either Givi Adjustable wind deflector with stock windshield or Puig 3727W Touring Screen for 165cm-175cm tall riders. GIVI D2145ST is best for 180cm-185cm tall riders. If you don’t like the Givi Windshield looks, consider using other aftermarket windshields in combo with an adjustable Givi wind deflector.

Bottom Air Release

Note that the stock windshield has a gap between the headlight and the stock windshield. This gap is there for a reason. It greatly reduces the low-pressure zone (“vacuum”) effect behind the windshield at higher speeds allowing a bit of ongoing air to travel through this gap and fill in the low-pressure zone behind the windshield. Always check if the aftermarket windshield has the same gap or other designed holes. Otherwise, you risk paying for a wind buffeting generator that is worse than riding without a windshield at all.

Verdict

As you probably figured out – we recommend using either Givi adjustable wind deflector with stock windshield or Puig windshield for average height riders. For taller than average individuals – use GIVI D2145ST and consider adding a wind deflector if the windshield is not enough.

Also, you can use a combination of other aftermarket windshields with a Givi wind deflector if you don’t like stock or Givi windshield looks. Remember to select a clear colour for taller windshields for passive safety since tinted windshields reduce the field of view of the road.
